MARI VEDIN LAAKSONEN

”Moments of nature” I´m a painter!
Despite trends, questioning and the changing context of painting I dare to go on painting. The complexity of the process of painting inspired me to go on. The fact that one colour gives another is so fascinating for me. The psychologic and the philosophic content in the painting process is created like a mirror and reflect your life, your honesty as a human being in tolerance for your existence and expressions.
My wish is to create a dialogue by catching a moment in nature. In our world of stress I want to meditate, look around, listen and feel. I work for the people who are interested in both physical feelings and different dimensions. In the background the threat on environement takes some of my attention. In my works ”Moments of nature” I use acrylic on paper, as my form of technique.
As a painter I work in periods or parallell with painting, because of my curiosity, and for the artist perspective, also with for example graphic methods, art-videos, conceptuel art, objects, installations depending on the needs of expression. Everytime I find my way back to painting.
I prefer to look at design in a holistic way when I work with room-shapes and can't see any limitations in choice of material. It depends on situation and function. I have worked with colour, laminate, bricks, plexi and wood etc. My latest commissions are Marieby nurcery school (outdoors) and the administration building of Östersund Skidstadion (Östersund Skiing stadium).
Exhibitions in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Hungery, Estonia, Spain and India. Some titles: ”Are you needed?”, ”Free of time”, ”Moments of nature”.
Competence in painting, graphic methods as intaglio printing, letter press and serigraphy. In laminating technique, writing and Gicleé, Fine Art printing.
Knowledge in interior- and pattern design, project leadership, marketing, producership and pedagogical work.
Co-operation project with Filmpool, Jämtland and Örjan Persson, writer. In multimedia technology with Bohlins media, Håkan Järmyr AB and Information Technology, college level, Stina Cordier, interior-designer, Ylva Bång, dancer, Stefan Levin, composer and Cathrine Johansson, artist.
Commissioned by Swedish state. Östersund Municipal district, Jämtland county government. Folkets Hus, Jämtland county music, the County employment agency, Amplion building corporation, Frösö homestead association, Krokom municipal district, AF-culure Umeå.
Selected commissions: Stockesalen Frösön (project leadership, interior design). Performance ”Identities” (project leadership, picture and idéa-design). Marieby nurcery school (outdoors). The administration building of Östersund Skidstadion (Östersund Skiing stadium).
Awarded Östersund municipal district culture stipend 1992.
Awarded the state working stipend 1996.
Awarded Jämtland county government culture prize 1999. (Peterson Berger prize)
